BBC revisits iconic brand campaign with 90-star film

BBC's 'What has the BBC ever done for me?' campaign, UK

UK – The BBC has launched a new brand campaign re-imagining its 1986 ‘What has the BBC ever given us?’ film for a new generation. Created by BBC Creative and directed by Dougal Wilson of Blink Productions, the ‘What has the BBC ever done for me?’ campaign stars Romesh Ranganathan alongside 90 BBC personalities and characters, celebrating the broadcaster’s cultural impact across news, entertainment, sport, radio and children’s programming.

The campaign demonstrates how heritage brands can refresh familiar creative assets through contemporary talent and nostalgic storytelling, reinforcing relevance without abandoning legacy. This highlights the continued value of emotionally led, cross-platform campaigns that build cultural affinity rather than promote individual products.

Read our Heritage Brand-umentaries report to uncover how legacy brands are using cinematic storytelling and archival narratives to transform heritage into a strategic asset for contemporary audiences.

Strategic opportunity

Audit your brand archive to identify stories, campaigns and cultural moments that can be re-interpreted for new audiences rather than creating entirely new brand narratives

Marriott brings branded residences to the French Riviera

France – Marriott International’s The Luxury Collection is moving deeper into branded living with its first residences in France. Scheduled to open in 2029, Port Marseillan will occupy 15 waterfront acres beside the Thau Lagoon and combine a 72-room hotel with 189 homes, including villas, garden suites, apartments and penthouses.

Developed with family-owned Propriétés & Co, the project positions extended-stay luxury as a gateway to the Languedoc region. Located between the Côte d’Azur and Catalonia, and 35 minutes from Montpellier-Méditerranée Airport, the site will overlook Mont Saint-Clair, Sète and the Mediterranean.

Nine food and drink venues are planned, including an oyster and sashimi bar, gastronomic restaurant, French café and vineyard terrace bar. A 2,000-square-metre Roman-inspired spa, pools, an art gallery and boutiques will further blur the line between resort, residence and destination, signalling how hospitality brands are turning property ownership into an immersive lifestyle ecosystem.

Stat: Shopper loyalty depends on instant value, not habit

UK – More than half (52%) of UK consumers would switch retailers for better loyalty rewards, according to new research from fintech company SumUp, highlighting growing pressure on brands to rethink customer retention strategies.

The survey of 2,000 UK consumers found that while 70% say loyalty schemes encourage repeat visits and 73% believe they offer good value, shoppers increasingly expect immediate, tangible benefits. Nearly three in five (59%) prefer smaller instant rewards over long-term incentives, while 35% have abandoned programmes because rewards took too long to earn.

The findings suggest loyalty is becoming increasingly transactional rather than habitual. As Gabriel Destremaut, PR and corporate communications expert at SumUp, said: ‘When developed with the consumer in mind, rewards programmes are an effective way to build brand trust and loyalty.’

Businesses that simplify rewards and deliver value faster are likely to gain a competitive advantage as consumers become more willing to switch.

The findings reflect our New Codes of Value report, which identifies a shift towards care-led value exchanges, with consumers rewarding brands that deliver meaningful, immediate benefits.

Strategic oppotunity

Redesign loyalty programmes around instant gratification, rewarding customers within their first few interactions rather than requiring long-term accumulation before delivering meaningful value
